| Luke 1: 46 - 54 is known as “The Magnificat”, Mary's humble praise to God for being chosen to bear God's Son as she visited with Elizabeth. Ruth Elaine Schram, the composer of our December 4th anthem, has used her abilities skillfully in a setting of both the Luke text and Psalms 34:3 - “O magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together” in “Magnify the Lord”. The choir will underscore Advent again in the anthem for December 11th “Advent Grace”. The composers of this selection weave “Amazing Grace” and a traditional English melody into a beautiful arrangement for voices and flute. On December 18th, the fourth Sunday of Advent , the choir again introduces a new anthem that has become a favorite with a rich guitar introduction. The title “Come Make A Place” is certainly descriptive of the text for it relates how Jesus fit right into the arms of Joseph and Mary and how our desire is that He comes into our lives and makes a place in our hearts. This will be a sneak preview of our Christmas Eve music. You certainly will want to be part of that worship service for Pastor Jim is preparing a message that high lights this new selection. Christmas Eve services at 5:00 and 7:00 will feature two guest violinists, Giselle and Gabrielle Graham, who will accompany our congregational carols. What a treat to have violins again at these special services! The choir is preparing an exciting opening anthem, “Come Celebrate”, and Debbie Still will work her magic again transforming the church into a breath-taking scene with poinsettias and lights! On Christmas morning, there will be one worship service at 10:00 with another chance to sing your favorite Christmas carols! Jan Fulford, a guest accompanist, will be here to help with the music as we will leave immediately after the Christmas Eve service to be with our precious grand daughter! January 1st, News Years Day, Palms West Presbyterian will celebrate the New Year with Communion and will address Epiphany and the arrival of the three Kings. Some familiar anthems as well as a few new ones will be featured during the New Year. So plan to be part of worship each Sunday during 2012! As you read this may I wish you a Joyous Christmas and a very happy New Year! |
